Mattapoisett's Sesquicentennial 2007

As most of you know, this year marks the 150th anniversary of Mattapoisett’s separation from the town of Rochester. To celebrate this significant milestone, an Anniversary Committee was formed over a year ago. This committee and its many sub-committees have put together a calendar of events starting with a Birthday Party for the Town at 2 p.m. on May 20th at the Town Hall. On this date in 1857 the Great and General Court of Plymouth actually signed the document officially separating Mattapoisett from Rochester. Streets will be blocked off and dignitaries from State Senators to Town Officials will be present.

The main celebration will take place the week of August 4th through 11th, with events planned for each day. The kickoff will be a Town parade on Saturday, featuring marching bands, groups, floats and motorized vehicles. There will be picnics, luncheons, dinners, lectures, concerts, games, historic walks, boat races, harbor tours and a closing flag ceremony.

As summer approaches there will be many items for sale such as: shirts, caps, bumper stickers, pamphlets, programs, books and posters. If anyone is interested in helping out by working one of the many committees, please attend the monthly meetings - held the third Thursday of every month at the American Legion Hall, at 7 p.m.
